Temple Traditions

Some Basic Traditions, followed for generations

Please remember and adhere to the following rituals and ground rules when performing pujas, abhishekams, or any other celebrations in the temple. These have been largely unwritten but passed on from generations, so please respect them and make sure that the traditions are observed and passed on to future generations.

Women and girls are not allowed inside the “Garbha graham” or the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Men of any age are the only ones who can perform the abhishekam and other pooja related activities. The women are allowed as long as they are past their menopause stage.

Do not break coconuts inside the sannadhi or within earshot. You can do so for the outside pullaiyar.

Do not broil/heat up/deep fry oil that will cause smoke in the temple. That means no appalam, vadaii, karuvadam!

Only Men should prepare the “pongal” and other Prasadams. If you are preparing or offered “Pongal” as part of your service, do not share the prasadam with any members who are not part of the family which worship the deity.

Do not plan on staying overnight in the temple/village premises after the Pongal service.
