Temple History

There is no known record of how the temple came out to be except thru word of mouth, passed on from earlier generation.

One account of it is during the late 19th century, the lands in Kozhundirampattu were owned and managed by a few families living in Manalurpetta village. One of the families had found the “Amman Mugam” in the field, when tilling the land for cultivation. The plough hit the statue’s nose, which, to this day can be seen as slightly damaged. Then they made a make-shift temple and consecrated the temple, along with the Pullaiyaar, Saptha Kannigaigal and a larger statue as “Renuka” and named the goddess "Ammachar Amman".

Today the temple is “Kula Deivam” (family deity) to a handful of families who had their ancestors in the neighboring villages and later moved out of there due to socio-economic changes. Also thousands from near and far come to get the blessings due to Amman’s power. This web site connects them, and other devotees, who are globally diverse and dispersed and preserves the centuries old traditions and history.
