Visiting by Car

Decades ago, visiting the temple was a very big deal. We all have heard horror stories in terms of the hardships our forefathers had faced to cross the Pennayar, (especially during the flood seasons), using "Thoni" hiring bullock carts and walking several kilometers. And with all the amenities and improvements, we don't want to forget the past and want to believe that future will be several folds better than the past.

Here are the directions from Chennai but once you reach Villupuram from any direction, the steps remain the same:

  • Take SH7 from Villupuram bus stand. (TN Highways department was planning an exit for hiruvannamalai / Thirukkoyilur / Manalurpettai on the NH45 in 2010, do not know if it is complete. If it is done you can avoid going into the Villupuram town, take the Villupuram bypass).

  • Thirukkoyilurtrain station is called Aragandanallur. When you see the T junction on this road near Aragandanallur station take the right toward Manalurpet.

  • When you see Tapovanam on the right take the next left to go to Manalurpet.

  • About 3 miles into this road, look for the first junction of 4 roads, Koottu Road (meeting point). The one on the left goes to Mazhumam. Turn right at this junction to Kozhundirampattu.

GPS It for me:
